ADK Express Building
Home to the community’s weekly newspaper, The Express, since 1996, 3046 Main Street was built in 1899 by one of Old Forge’s first doctors, Stuart Nelson, as his house, offices, and Old Forge’s first pharmacy, located at the rear on the ground level. The original freehand plans for the four-story stone and shingle structure still exist; the building is largely unaltered. Distinctive features include the large veranda, chestnut interior woodwork including an open circular spindle staircase, and a rooftop window’s watch with views up the Fulton Chain accessible by an inside ladder at the top story that was used by Dr. Nelson as a dormitory.
